Pre pour inspection passed and we are all set to pour this foundation on lot 3 at our Alma Road development. Foundation system we are using for this build is the QPOD Foundation. This is a raft type foundation which is made up of recycled plastic, and can be designed to meet conditions of TC 1, 2 and 3 soil types. We have found this system very easy to use, right from the initial delivery of the materials. Being plastic pods they are lightweight and can be stacked upon eachother, meaning they don’t take up the entire site when delivered, and you don’t run the risk of them blowing down the road! QPod take care of the engineering for you if it is an SED slab that is required, otherwise they have recently received Codemark approval so your draughtsman or architect can draw in the foundation to your home plans without the need to consult an engineer as long as your site and house plan meet their requirements.
In terms of the installation it was finished in less than day for this 150m2 house. With the plans themselves QPOD provide an itemised list of materials they need to supply, which makes it easy to order and provide a detailed installation guide. The pods themselves are made up of full pods that are closed 2 sides that can be clipped together, end caps to fit on the open sides when required, extension pods where you need a half sized pod to fit certain lengths, and spacers in 3 different sizes to support the reinforcing bars.
Overall our first time using this flooring system we are very pleased with the results. Not only is it quick and efficient, it is also earth friendly giving you a more sustainable and eco-friendly foundation option.
