Kainga Ora development in full swing

Section2 is proud to be working alongside Kainga Ora in developing the sections at 9 & 11 Egmont Street, Castlecliff into eight 2 bedroom units to help with our social housing crisis. KO have been really easy to work alongside and its nice to see they saw value in the home and landscape designs we proposed, enough to purchase these for people in the community. Its now our job to produce these warm and dry homes in a timely matter and to a high quality. Its a task we don’t take lightly and thrive on!

Now all the services have been installed and buildings consents approved by council we are delighted to see the foundation prep in action. Dowman Contracting team have been on site over the last two weeks completing the prep for the foundation and getting the base course down for the ROW. The timing couldn’t have been better with the weather these last two weeks. Whilst it was some cold frosty mornings, it made for nice sunny (and more importantly) dry days. Not a luxury we normally have this time of the year. It allowed the team to get get in and out of the site with relative ease across the ten days.

The foundation prep involved removing the top 200-300mm of soil then getting our engineer to inspect the subgrade to confirm ground bearing capacity was suitable for the homes. Once that had been signed off we starting backfilling and compacting AP40 shellrock. Then the final trim is done in shellrock fines. Sounds an easy exercise however this is one of the most important steps in the building process, and setting the right levels for each foundation is critical for drainage, exterior paths and driveways. Thanks to Ben and the Dowman team for their great work, on to the foundations now!
