Right of way being poured at Puriri Street

Today is part 1 of placing the concrete for the new right of way at this 3 lot subdivision on Puriri Street, Whanganui. The driveway is considered a right of way as it services more than one dwelling. On this occasion it services the original house plus the new duplex home so a total of three dwellings. After alot of prep work, boxing, compacting and tying steel it is great to see the concrete go down on a lovely sunny morning. This pour was 25m3 of 25mpa concrete with two stormwater sumps to provide adequate drainage. The yellow caps you see in the photo are height pins so the concrete placers have heights to work to as they navigate their way through the pour. Part 2 for the right of way is to follow next week then we will be able to apply for Code of Compliance Certificate for the dwellings and 224 notice for the subdivision.

As per WDC standards right of ways need to have minimum 200mm compacted shellrock base with 125mm thick reinforced concrete. You can see the mesh in the featured image which gives the right of way concrete extra strength. Once the concrete has “gone off” the day it is placed the guys will come back to cut the concrete within a 24-48 hour timeframe. These expansion cuts are to induce cracking in the cuts to try and avoid any unsightly cracks that can occur, normally on corners but can be anywhere the concrete feels like it! For more information on WDC standards click on the property developers link and you will find some useful documents to make sure you are following the correct standards. If in doubt please get in touch with us, as its a lot easier and cheaper to ask questions now before constructing driveways/right of ways/vehicle crossings to the wrong standard.
